Nonprofits should apply for loan funds as quickly as possible.
Nonprofits are eligible to apply for the Payroll Protection Program (PPP), which provides forgivable loans to small businesses and nonprofits to cover payroll, mortgages, rent, and utilities during the coronavirus shutdowns. Forgiveness is based on the organization applying maintaining staff during the crisis. More information about the PPP is available from the Department of Treasury.

FMA Institute is hosting daily clinics through April 17th with information to support nonprofits in applying for the PPP
In addition to the PPP, organizations are eligible to apply for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Advance Payment (EIDL) in amounts up to $10,000. More information is available from the Small Business Administration.
View a list of SBA-approved lenders in Maryland. Many banks require a previous relationship to apply for a PPP loan. If you do not have an existing relationship with any of these entities:

Maryland Unites is sharing opportunities for Marylanders wishing to volunteer and get involved in COVID-19 response efforts.
The Maryland Department of Health’s coronavirus page has comprehensive data and statistics about cases in the state, including a breakdown by race.
At the time of this writing (April 14, 2020), the Maryland Department of Commerce is no longer accepting new applications for its small business grant and loans program. They continue to offer guidance about applying for different federal programs, such as the PPP and SBA loans mentioned above, which are separate relief efforts from the Maryland loans.

Maryland Nonprofits, the state association of nonprofits, continues to collect resources, funds, and advocacy opportunities on their website, in addition to advocating for nonprofit inclusion in federal, state, and local relief efforts.
Maryland Nonprofits is hosting weekly COVID-19 member calls. If you are a current grant partner of The Helen J. Serini Foundation and are not a member of Maryland Nonprofits, we are happy to assist with membership fees on an as-needed basis. Reach out to our Program Officer for more information.
Maryland Philanthropy Network (MPN), the state association of funders, is also collecting resources and fund information from across the state for both funders and non-profit grantseekers.
MPN is also hosting weekly COVID-19 member calls with key area government and nonprofit groups represented to share response efforts, particularly in Baltimore City but also across the state.
Candid is collecting open RFPs for COVID-19 related funds across the country.
FMA Institute is providing resources to support nonprofits in applying for the PPP.
Nonprofit Learning Lab is hosting a series of webinars on adjusting to remote operations, fundraising in the time of coronavirus, and accessing funds for COVID-19 responses. Some of these are free, and some have a nominal registration fee. Recordings of past webinars are also available.
Independent Sector continues to collect information about how the CARES Act impacts non-profits, including navigating requests for loans and grants.
Baltimore Community ToolBank remains open to provide supplies and tools to members.
TechSoup has compiled a list of resources for nonprofits specifically as it relates to technology needs and use, including discounted and/or free access to software systems to support remote work, webinars on technology use and the CARES Act, technology and remote work policy samples, and online training opportunities.
GlobalGiving continues to update its page with COVID-19 resources for non-profits, including a list of grant opportunities and tips on communications, virtual meetings, and more.
Client Support
Economic Impact Payments will be made to individuals in the United States. Tax filers will automatically receive their payments via direct deposit or by check using the most recent tax filing information available at the IRS. Those who are not required to file taxes, including individuals who earn less than $12,200/year, are still eligible to receive these economic impact payments, but may have to take additional steps in order to receive their money. More information is available from the IRS.
The CASH Campaign of Maryland remains open virtually to provide financial trainings and support accessing benefits to individuals. This includes navigating receipt of the economic impact payments for individuals, unemployment benefits, and more. More information and resources are available at mdcashacademy.org.
Significant changes and flexibility have been worked into unemployment options for individuals who have lost jobs due to COVID-19 shutdowns. More information is available from the US Department of Labor and applications for Maryland residents must be submitted through the Maryland Department of Labor.
Maryland has opened a special enrollment period for uninsured Marylanders to obtain health insurance at this time. Individuals must enroll by June 15th via the Maryland Health Connection.
Nonprofits serving Frederick County are asked to complete this short survey outlining needs and resources available. A collected group of funders is continuously reviewing these responses to connect needs with available resources and vice versa.
A group of funders in Frederick County has established a common grant application for Frederick nonprofits needing increased funds to respond to COVID-19 concerns or to sustain operations in light of lost revenue due to COVID-19. The application is available through the Community Foundation of Frederick County’s website; submissions are currently being reviewed on a rolling basis.
The United Way of Frederick County is collecting donations from individuals in the community to support nonprofits. These funds will be distributed as part of the group funding effort. Donate here.
The Ausherman Family Foundation has collected Frederick-specific resources for nonprofits.
The YMCA of Frederick County is collecting donations of resources to be redistributed to nonprofits and their clients. Information on how to donate or request supplies can be found on their website.
The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs is requesting volunteers, specifically providers of homeless, mental health, substance abuse, senior citizen, or vulnerable population services. Volunteers are also requested for food/supply delivery, Mental Health outreach/medication monitoring, satellite location staffing, donation and supply management, and medical staff for site visits, temperature reading, general oversight of temporary shelter locations.
